Giving news of Mormon emigrants and California gold-seekers on the trail, the difficulties between himself and Isaac Brown, and his own activities at his trading post on the Bear River (near the present Dingle, Idaho). Accompanied by a typed transcript of the letter by Dale L. Morgan, and his typed transcripts of two other letters from Brigham Young to Smith (November 15, 1848 and June 2, 1849) also in the Church Historian's Office, Salt Lake City.
